Protection against mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi
Normocin™ is an innovative antibiotic formulation designed to prevent cell lines from mycoplasma, bacterial and fungal contaminations.
Normocin™ can be routinely added in the cell culture medium in combination with Penicillin/Streptomycin to broaden the anti-bacterial spectrum.
Key Features:
- Active against both Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, mycoplasmas and fungi
- Can be used in combination with Penicillin/Streptomycin
- Non-toxic to the cell line being treated
Normocin™ contains three compounds. Two of these compounds act on Gram+ bacteria, Gram- bacteria, and mycoplasmas by blocking DNA and protein synthesis. The third compound eradicates yeasts and fungi by disrupting ionic exchange through the cell membrane.
Specifications
Product concentration: 50 mg/ml
Active concentration not toxic for treated cell lines: 100 μg/ml
One 1 ml vial of Normocin™ is sufficient to treat 500 ml of culture.
One 20 ml bottle of Normocin™ is sufficient to treat 10 liters of culture.
Physicochemical characterization: pH and appearance
Endotoxin level: < 0.5 EU/mg
Cell culture tested: potency validated on bacterial and fungal reference strains
Normocure™ – Antimicrobial Reagent
Broad-spectrum Antibacterial Agent for the Treatment of Contaminated Cell Cultures
Normocure™ is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent highly effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, cell cultures contaminated with bacteria from the environment, such as Staphylococcus species and Achromobacter species, can be efficiently cured by Normocure™ treatment. Unlike most antibiotics used to treat cell cultures, such as Penicillin-Streptomycin, Normocure™ is also active against multidrug-resistant bacteria. Additionally, Normocure™ has been successfully used in primary cell cultures for the treatment of contaminated samples to safely obtain induced pluripotent stem cells.
Normocure™ is provided as a ready-to-use solution (50 mg/ml). Simply add to contaminated cell cultures at the recommended concentration (100 μg/ml) for 2 weeks. After 3 passages, the bacterial contamination is totally eliminated.
Specifications
Product concentration: 50 mg/ml
Normocure™ can be added:
– directly to the bottle of culture medium : 1 ml of Normocure™ for a 500 ml bottle
– to the flask containing the cells : 10 μl in a 25 cm2 flask containing 5 ml culture medium.
Working concentration of Normocure™:100 μg/ml.
Decontamination period: 2 weeks (3 passages)
Quality Control: Activity of Normocure™ is rigorously tested by physicochemical and microbiological assays.
